MAY-I compliment you
Discover the movement that aims to spread kindness and genuine appreciation. MAY-I invites you to participate in a simple yet powerful gesture: giving compliments.

The idea behind 'MAY-I'
MAY-I is an initiative to motivate people, especially in the month of May, to give others a sincere compliment on a daily base. An invitation to consciously reflect on the positive aspects of the people around us.
In a time when criticism and performance pressure often prevail, a sincere compliment is a rare and valuable gift. One compliment can make a world of difference, especially on a day or in a period when someone desperately needs it.

Why in May
Although you might not immediately expect it, scientific research shows that precisely in spring, feelings of vulnerability, gloom, and depression increase. There is even a peak in suicide rates observed in the months of April, May, and June.
Approximately 700,000 people worldwide die by suicide (WHO). In the Netherlands, this is about 1,800 to 2,000 people per year and an average of 5 people per day! It is one of the main causes of death among young people (CBS)
The energy paradox
In winter, people sometimes feel gloomy and tired. In spring, energy returns, but the problems often persist.
When everything is blooming and people around us seem cheerful, people who feel bad may feel even lonelier.
